Coming up in 2017 …
Rossiter Books, Monmouth at 7pm. Tickets just £3, redeemable against a copy of Deadly Game.
At 2pm, I will be at the Orwell Hotel on Hamilton Road in Felixstowe. I’ll be with Dan Mooney and Martin Bannister. Dan Mooney’s debut novel, Me Myself and Themis is an exploration of self-destruction and coping with mental health issues. Martin Bannister has taught creative writing in Wandsworth Prison and graffiti to teenagers who have been excluded from mainstream education. His debut novel A Map of Nowhere was written after a period of employment as a support worker for people with mental health problems.
This session is entitled ‘Male Suicide; Stories of life, death and surviving’ and is dedicated to the memory of Mark Furnace 29/01/1972- 30/11/2015. Mark’s partner will be taking part in the 2017 London marathon to raise money for CALM. The Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) is dedicated to reducing male suicide rates in the UK. My personal contribution to this discussion with be from the perspective of the policeman who finds himself trying to talk someone out of taking their own life and who, on occasions, faces the aftermath of such an occurrence.
